It’s early Saturday morning in Swift Current and people are gathering at the Palliser Pavilion. Items are rolling in as people set up various tables, hang up banners from local businesses and plug in and test equipment. Despite the early start the smile on people’s faces suggest an air of excitement as the Spring edition of the Swift Current Repair Café is almost ready to begin.
Repair Cafés are part of a grassroots movement that aims to reduce waste, by encouraging local residents to have everyday items repaired instead of replaced. The popularity of the event in Swift Current has grown to include a spring and fall edition with over 500 items repaired as of March 2024.
The one-day event includes several different categories such as small appliances and electronics, but it also includes a variety of others that you might consider surprising.
